Online board tutorial launched

A new online resource from CompassPoint Nonprofit Services aims to help current and prospective nonprofit board members better understand their roles and responsibilities as they guide their organizations.

Nonprofit Board Basics Online includes a "virtual conference" on board service and other resources about nonprofits and board leadership.

Funded by the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, the tutorial offers interactive sessions designed to help users can learn about the roles of board members or watch short videos about others' experiences.

Originally developed for a corporate audience, the tool is appropriate for anyone interested in nonprofit boards, CompassPoint says.

"We've heard from corporate clients in particular that they're interested in finding new ways to encourage their employees to volunteer in the community," Emmett Carson, president and CEO of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, says in a statement. "Serving on a nonprofit board is a great option, but you need to understand what being a board member means."
