Social Venture Partners gives over $26M

During its first decade of operation, Social Venture Partners International has awarded more than $26.5 million in grant investments to more than 300 nonprofits.

Started in 1997 and based in Seattle, the group of affiliate organizations models itself after venture capitalists in the for-profit sector, seeking the financial contributions and expertise of donors to make "investments" in nonprofit organizations.

In the last 18 months alone, five new affiliates have joined the Social Venture Partners network, and from 2006 to 2007, the total number of donors to the organization increased 14 percent.

Today, the group includes 25 member organizations in the U.S., Canada and Tokyo, and has more than 1,900 member donors.
